The wood used for 100% of our items is Rubberwood. This is timber from the Pokok Getah, (Hevea Brasiliensis), which is a member of the Maple Tree family, and all the wood we use is grown here in Malaysia. The wood is very prized for it's qualities of dense grain, it's beautiful colour, it's ability to accept lots of different finishes and it's extreme resistance to shrinkage. After cutting the wood is dried in kilns which increases its strength and durability and reduces shrinkage even further. Rubberwood or Kayu Getah as we call it in Malay, compares very favourably against other hard woods used in the furniture industry in all aspects. Indeed it's characteristics are such that it is often mistaken for Oak, Rosewood and other woods after manufacture.
The timber is a byproduct of the rubber tree tapping industry here in Malaysia. After the trees reach the end of their sap-producing lifespan , and die naturally, their wood is now used in the making of high quality furniture, instead of being burned to make way for new sap producing trees, as used to be the case. This means that the timber used in our furniture is the most environmentally friendly in the world, and the source of the timber is entirely sustainable.
Rubberwood has a consistent colour throughout, not darkening towards the middle of the tree, and has a naturally beautiful cream shade, often with a tinge of pink.
There is a large range of fabrics used in our furniture, but mainly micro fibre, micro suede, micro velvet, leather, PU fabric, cotton and normal Hawaii fabric. Almost all of our fabric can be made Fire Retardant if so required by the customer and 100% of our fabric is sourced from manufacturers here in Malaysia, and is made to exactingly high quality standards.
